Mid-Atlantic Applications
Project MADCAP
Geospatial technology is making its mark all across the mid-atlantic. MADCAP is just one example. MADCAP stands for Mid-Atlantic Digital Catalog of Aerial Photography. It is a catalog of photographs to be used with GIS software and simulations. This information is useful to bureaus needing topical photographs of the midwest. This information can be used for political planning and predictions, disaster management, and resource distribution.
Project MAC Urisa
Urisa is a group with chapters across the country. URISA stands for Urban & Regional Information Systems Association. Mid-Atlantic URISA aims to:
- "Provide a community to facilitate communication and education among the various GIS constituency groups within the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Promote the business of GIS by providing access to networking, new information and technology.
- Foster relationships with organizations with similar missions to further the profession of GIS."
Mid-Atlantic URISA is a chapter that, like others, is helping to push GIS even further. It serves more as a middle-man to unite professionals under one heading. This is an effective strategy to pioneer a field, and is much like other groups that united professionals in the past.
